Ah, this poor thread! It must be revived! *Proceeds with CPR* *Realizes she has never learned CPR* Help! Anyway... If I may post a quote that Pippin said about Sam... "He'd jump down a dragon's throat, if he didn't trip over his own feet first..." ;D

lol, I can't remember exactally how to do CPR anymore either I love the dedication that Pippin is able to see in Sam in that quote. It has both seriousness, in reference to his fearlessness of the dragon, and then you have that followed by a typical, humourous Pippin quote "...if he didn't trip over his own feet first" Love him!

Well I never learned CPR...so I can't help with that either Hehe--that quote about Sam always makes me laugh. It really does give a good picture of just how far Sam is willing to go for Frodo...and the whole tripping over his own feet first *giggles* Silly lil Pippin

Yes... And it's interesting, something Sam said later, just before the Company went into Moria, about Bill the pony ; "He'd follow me into a dragon's den if I led him." No relation to the other one really, but an interesting thing.

No, he didn't not at all. *Glares daggers at PJ* In the books, Sam was upset about having to leave Bill behind, and it was only when the Watcher in the Water appeared (and Sam was the only one not stricken to immobility, by the way ) that Bill ran away, and Sam left him alone to save Frodo. But I suppose you've read the books.

The Hobbit is good, too. Well, as Sam said, "Wolves and snakes...and the snakey thing was too much for him..." I mean, if you were a pony (even such a smart one as Bill) and something that looked like a horde of snakes was coming out of a pond, when most ponies might have run at one.... Ponies are ponies, after all.

Well, uh, thanks, Rev, I can make something out of that. ~ Sam was a hobbit. He was the very representation of a hobbit, simply because he was more hobbit-like, in some ways, than most other hobbits. And yet, he was very un-hobbitish in that he would leave his domain, his little world, for anything. And he left it for Frodo's sake. He was too loyal for anything else. And where does loyalty come from? Love. Not the mushy, sweet-heart sort of love, but the brotherly love that makes one leave one's most beloved possession - in Sam's case, peace - to go on a very long errand, to lay down one's life - though he never quite had to - and to be there, all the way, for the person on whom the main focus was put. This is why, I think, in the book, the people praised Frodo and Sam together, for though Frodo had borne the burden of the ring and lost his finger, it was Sam who bore the pain of that finger. Such is a hero. ~ *Hopes her sudden speech didn't scare everyone off* *Looks around*
